Meet Steven Cotterell
“I started my career working as an emergency medical technician intermediate (EMT-I) with a volunteer ambulance service that provided medical service to special events in 1994. I continue to work in emergency medical services as both a volunteer and paid personnel.
In 2002, I began working as a security officer/first responder in a large casino. I continued to study and learn progressing through the ranks to eventually become a manager for the security department. In this position, I was overseeing the daily security operations for a shift of over 30 security officers.
In 2004, I became an emergency medical services instructor, teaching both skills and recertification classes. This is when I learned that I liked teaching people the necessary skills to save someone’s life. In 2012, I obtained my instructor’s certification from the American Red Cross for First Aid, CPR, and AED. I have taught numerous classes over the past 15 years, including developing lesson plans, designing presentations, and determining different methods of delivering information to my students to create maximum retention.
I am very community-oriented, believing that the more people I help through the practice of my skills or teaching others, the better the community will be. I have always held the belief that it is everyone’s responsibility to work to make the community a better place.
One of my early supervisors, Keith Jones, who took a fresh EMT-I and was just out of school, provided me the opportunity to practice my skills, helped me learn to love the idea of being a volunteer, instilled a sense of community, and remained a mentor to this day. His leadership by example guided me toward becoming an instructor and being available to help those in need.
I am a family man. My wife and daughter are the most important people in my life. They continue to stand behind and support me as I transition from working for others to operating my own business, TRAINING SOLUTIONS, LLC in Las Vegas, NV. They share my vision and knowledge to help provide others with the knowledge and skills to act in an emergency through exceptional medical training.”
